Exhumation in the Putis Community Highlands of Huanta – Ayacucho On Saturday, May 17, 2008 the exhumation of the largest mass grave found in Peru to date began. It is estimated that the mass grave, located in the Putis Community in the highlands of Huanta, contains more than 100 persons who were murdered -- among them elderly and children -- during the time of political violence in the 1980’s.
